Carlos Snake Hogan

Carlos “Snake” Hogan, 81, of Greenwood Road, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Born on September 27, 1932 in Montcalm, he was a son of the late F. Thomas and Beatrice Hubbard Hogan. He had been a resident of Bluefield for 50 years and was a member of the Mid-Way Christian Church and was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean Conflict. At the age of 16 he began his long career with N&W and the N&S railroad. He was a retired chief dispatcher with 40 years of service from the railroad. He was a member of the McDowell Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post #0009, and was also a member of the railroad retirees club. After his retirement he began volunteer work in outpatient surgery where he greeted and cared for patients for 26 years. On July 31, 1955 he married his wife Shirley Tate Hogan with whom he shared 58 wonderful years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Ann Hogan, Genevieve Steele and Phyllis Phillips. Survivors include: Wife: Shirley Tate Hogan of the home Son: Fred Hogan and Kimberly and family of Bluefield Daughter: Carla Gay Pochick and Tom of Hurricane, WV 2 grandchildren: Laura Ashlei See and Ryan of Winter Park, FL Hogan Tate Frazier of Hurricane, WV Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Minister Dan Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where friends and family will be serving as pallbearers. The Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial gifts maybe made in his name to your favorite charity.
