Ramona Barnhill

Mrs. Ramona Barnhill, 76, of Concord, NC and formerly of Pocahontas, VA, departed this life on May 1, 2014 with her family by her side in her home.   Mrs. Barnhill was born on February 27, 1938 in Spanishburg, WV, daughter of the late Sam and Ruby Mae (Lusk) Poindexter.  Mona was a military wife and homemaker. She also greatly enjoyed serving as director of the Pocahontas Youth Center for several years in the 80's.  She cherished the friendships she formed with the teens of that era.  She was also a person who had strong faith in the redemption power of Jesus Christ.  She served God in various capacities at Pocahontas Baptist Church before health issues lead to moving to North Carolina. She will be remembered by her family as a very loving Mom, Nana and Great Nana.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Glen Barnhill. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bob Poindexter.   Survivors include sons Dwayne Alan and wife Mary of England, Randy Scott and wife Cindy of Concord, NC with whom she made her home for the last 10 years.  Brothers Charles Poindexter and wife Nettie of Centennial, CO.  Rodney Poindexter and wife Connie of Roanoke, VA.  Sister in law Peggy Poindexter of Raeford, NC. Grandsons Gary and wife Hannah, Michael and Patrick.  Granddaughters Samantha and husband Jason, Crystal and husband Michael and Kathryn.  Great-grandchildren Allison, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Mark, Aiden and Kelsey.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.   Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday, May 4th at 2pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell with Pastor William Davis officiating.   Friends may call one hour prior to services, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell.
