David Issac Whittimore, Jr.

March 9, 1925 — April 30, 2014

David Isaac Whittimore, Jr., 89, of Rocky Gap, VA, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Bland County Nursing and Rehab in Bastian, VA.   Born on March 9, 1925 in Johnson City, TN, he was a son of the late David Isaac and Ruth Phillips Whittimore. He was a long time resident of Fairlawn, VA. He was a World War II veteran and served in the US Navy. David worked at Radford Arsenal for 17 years in various supervisory positions then later in his life moved to Rocky Gap and was employed as a maintenance supervisor at the Holiday Inn in Bluefield. His favorite hobbies included gardening and wood working. He was active in the Bland Masonic Lodge and had previously held numerous positions and was instrumental in teaching young men the masonic order. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Lydia Christine Whittimore; a son, Michael Ray Whittimore.   Left to cherish his memory are his:   Son:       David Allen Whittimore and wife Judy of Johnson City, TN   Daughter:            Stacey Syres and husband Anthony of Rock   Grandchildren:  Lori Whittimore, Kellie Dobbins, Alexandria Hubbard   Great grandchildren:      Mary, Alex, Karleigh and Emily   Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 11:30 AM at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Princeton with Masonic rites being performed by the Bland Masonic Lodge.   Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at the service time.   Online condolences will be accepted at www.cravens-shires.com   Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Road (Bluewell), Bluefield, WV 24701 is serving the family.
