James Robert Shaw

December 18, 1934 — April 5, 2014

James Robert Shaw, 79, of Magnolia Lane, Bluefield, VA, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.   Born on December 18, 1934 in Switchback, WV, he was a son of the late Emory M. and Hazel Comer Shaw. He was a current resident of Bluefield, VA but had previously lived in Davy, Premier and Welch. He attended Brushfork Baptist Church. James was a retired coal miner from US Steel and was a member of the UMWA. He was a proud US Marines, served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin F. Shaw; sisters, Mary Shaw, Jean Byars, and Peggy Blocker; and former wives, Nellie Mae Marshall Shaw, Mary Steele Shaw and Francis Wyrick Shaw.   Survivors include:   Wife:     Mary E. Richmond Shaw of the home   Brother:               Floyd Shaw of Tombstone, AZ   Sister:                   Virginia Nelson of Dimmitt, TX   Daughter:            Margaret Christina Lovell and husband Wade of Falls Mills, VA                                 Tanya Lee Smith and husband George of Galax, VA                                 Margie Katherine Shaw of Princeton                                 Pamela Jenerette of Mooreville, NC   Sons:                     James Howard Shaw of Saudi Arabia                                 Paul Wayne Shaw, Sr. and fiancée Kelly Coffey of Galax, VA                                 Robert Scott Shaw of Kansas City, MO                                 James Roaten of Mooresville, NC                                 Steve Roaten of Bluefield, WV   26 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren   Sisters in law:    Margaret, Anna and Edith   Brothers in law:                James, Jennings, and Donald   Numerous nieces and nephews   Special niece:    Kathi Byars Elliott   Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Wes Lambert officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.   Friends may call 12:00-1:00 PM at the funeral home.
