G. Steve Bourne, Sr., of Bluefield, WV, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 23, 1934, in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late Everett Bourne and Linda Stevens Bourne. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his brother, Richard A. Bourne, and a granddaughter, Jamie R. Bourne. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Lillian Bourne; three sons: Steve Bourne Jr. and wife Vicki of Bluefield, VA, Rick Bourne and wife Roxanne of Bluefield, WV, and David Bourne of Bluefield, WV and fiancé Rhonda Thomas of Princeton, WV; six grandchildren: Ryan Bourne and wife Leah of Williamsburg, VA, Hillary Griffin and husband Wynne of Midlothian, VA, special caregiver Jeremy Bourne and wife Christina of Bluefield, WV, Joshua Bourne and wife Lisa of Abingdon, VA, Kathleen Elswick and husband Chase of Bluefield, VA, and Holly Bourne of Richmond, VA; six great-grandchildren: Brady Griffin, Cannon Elswick, Mehala Bourne, Derbin Bourne, Sarah Griffin, and Grace Bourne; and special Sister-in-Law Maxine Bourne of Bluefield, WV. Mr. Bourne was a man of strong Christian faith, and a devoted member and Deacon of the East End Baptist Church in Bluefield, WV. He spoke often of God’s goodness, grace and mercy in sustaining him during his five-year battle with cancer; and was touched by many who lifted him in prayer. He was devoted to his family, and received great pleasure in following the activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Bourne graduated from Bluefield High School, where he was an outstanding athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball. He remained active in sports for many years, playing fast-pitch softball and basketball. He enjoyed working outdoors on his farm. Mr. Bourne was the president of R&S Electrical Services, a business he operated for 30 years. Prior to entering business for himself, he served as a Vice President for Bluefield Supply Company and as the Sales Manager for Emerson’s R&T Electric Services. During his career, Mr. Bourne received designation as a General Electric Corporation Master Salesman, and also was named a Kentucky Colonel. Services to celebrate the life of Glen Steve Bourne, Sr. will be conducted at 2:00pm, Friday, March 14, 2014, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Road, Bluefield, WV, with the Reverend Chad Lambert and Reverend Gary Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Bourne, Jeremy Bourne, Joshua Bourne, Richard A. Bourne III, Wynne Griffin, and Chase Elswick. Honorary pallbearers include Richard A. Bourne Jr., Nick Bourne, and the Deacons of East End Baptist Church. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:30pm until the service hour on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the East End Baptist Church, Bluefield, WV or Hospice Compassus of Bluefield, WV. Online condolences will be accepted at cravens-shires.com.
