Roy Jackson (Bub) Smith, 82, of the Falls Mills Road, Falls Mills, VA, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014 at his home.
Born on October 20, 1931 in Brushfork, he was a son of the late George and Lottie Surface Smith. Roy retired from R&T Electric and his favorite pastime was hunting. He had a great love for the woods.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, two sons, Arnold Jackson Smith and Roy Gary Smith; and a daughter, Lisa Smith Pensula.
Those left to cherish his memories are his:
Wife of 60 years: Gertrude Stassin Smith of the home
His only child: Karen Smith Bowling and husband Charles
5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren
Very special nephew: Larry Farthing and wife Brenda whom Roy considered his own children
Special Caregivers: Carolyn Carver, Mary Ann Havens, Patty Young and Kim Smith
Daughter-in-law: Kathy Smith
Special doctor and caregiver: Dr. Ladonna Bowling, who was able to make his final wishes at home come true
Precious friends who stood by him til the end: Tim Brooks, Darrell McVey, Walt Compton, Leroy Bowman, Randy Earnest, Ted Hagerman and Harold Barrett and the Leedy garage boys.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Minister Charles Bowling officiating. In keeping with Bub’s wishes, he will be cremated following services.
Friends may call on Monday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
