Carolyn Cruise Smith Thompson, 78, of Kenwood Road, Bluefield, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Born on January 20, 1936 in Patrick County, VA, she was a daughter of the late Early and Susan Gunter Cruise. She had been a resident of Tazewell and Bluefield for most of her life and was a member of the Princeton Primitive Baptist Church. She was an employee of Sam’s Club where she worked in the demo dept. She was also the former operator of the Dial Rock Restaurant in Tazewell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Thompson; a son, Anthony Ray Smith; a sister, Katherine Talley; a granddaughter, Ashley Young and a grandson, Levi Smith. Survivors include: 3 daughters: Retha Smith and Jimmy of Bluefield Rebecca “Becky” Compton and Jerry of Bluefield Rita Hagerman and companion Gino Russo of Bluefield Daughter in law: Pam Smith of Bluefield 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren 1 brother: Elvis Cruise and Sue of Elk River, MN Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Daniel Gunnoe officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with Jerry Compton, Jr., Steven Smith, Robbie Young, Brandon Redden, Anthony Ross, and Don Compton will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call on Saturday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
