Billy Joe “B.J.” Cook 77 of Abbs Valley Road Bluefield, VA went to be with his Savior on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. B.J. was born on Monday, November 09, 1936 in Hatcher, WV to the late Dr. Ted “T.R.” Cook and Lillian Cooke Cook. He was a member of the Abbs Valley Baptist Church in Abbs Valley, VA and a member of Rescue 945. B.J. was a retired parts salesman with Andy Clark in Princeton and Pep Boys Automotive in Delaware. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Jimmy Cook, Donnie Cook and Teddy Ray Cook Jr.; one sister Leah Cook Mathena and a nephew Todd Cook. Survivors include: His wife of 28 years Linda Way Cook of the home Granddaughter: Faith Powers of the home Five Daughters: Donna Maria McFee and husband Ed of Delaware Valerie Diane Stump of Texas Melanie Kay Brown of Texas Janice Marie Johnson and husband Tim of Pocahontas, VA Jeri Lynn Powers and husband Shane of Abbs Valley, VA One Brother: Roger Dale Cook and wife Sharon of North Carolina One Sister: Betty Jane Toler and husband Jim of North Carolina Ten Grandchildren: Devon and Danny Foster Ashley and Michael Stump Joshua, Caleb and Jacob Brown Courtney and Nikki Lowe Cole Powers Five Great Grandchildren Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Abbs Valley Baptist Church in Abbs Valley, VA at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Baker and Rev. Carlos Hess officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Cook Cemetery in Boissevain, VA where Johnny Gillespie, Michael Lowe, Chester Locke, Scott Ross, Jamie Ross and Rommell Hargrave will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Cook and Tim Johnson. Military honors will be performed by VFW Post 9696 in Bluefield, VA and the American Legion Post 14 of Pocahontas. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Abbs Valley Baptist Church.
