David D. Pennington, age 66 of 304 Cherry Street, Bluefield, WV passed away
Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Bluefield Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born July 21, 1947 in Bluefield, W.V, He was the son of the late
Melba B. Pennington and James H. Pennington. He was also preceeded in death by an
infant brother James.
David graduated from Bluefield High School in 1965 and went on to attend McLains
Business College. He was a veteran of the US Anny and was discharged in 1969 after
serving 3 years in Vietnam. Following his service to our country David worked for
McQuails Furniture Co. of Bluefield, WV. After this he went to work in the mines for
United Poca Coal Company. David worked in the mines a total of 14 years at various sites
before retiring in 1988.
Left to cherish his memory are: His wife of 23 years, Beverly Robertson Pennington,
and son Brandon Pennington of the home. Sons: David Pennington and wife Karen of
Rocky Gap Va, Keith Pennington of Frederick St. Bluefield, WV, Christopher Pennington
and companion Heather of Bluefield Va, two step-sons Brian Kovak of Lynchburg Va. and
Kevin Martin of the home.
David had 11 grandchildren which he loved very much. Adam, Noah, Kayla, Autumn,
Ryan, Natalie, Ashton, Gage, Zac, Bailey and Anna. He also cherished a special niece
Leann.
In addition to these he is survived by his 6 brothers: Ronald Pennington of Bramwell,
W.V, Randolph Pennington of Brushfork, Rev. Gary Pennington and wife Jo Ann of
Littlesburg Road, Kenneth Pennington and wife Martha of Bluefield, Va, Michael
Pennington and wife Cynthia of Brushfork, and David Lee Pennington also of Brushfork.
David is also survived by several nieces and nephews, a very large extended family and
many good friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Gary Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Pennington’s sons will carry their father to his grave.
