Percy Simpkins, 80, of Bluefield, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at The Maples in Bluefield.
Born on May 3, 1933 in McComas, he was one of 17 children born to the late Preston and Vivian Thornton Simpkins. He had been a lifelong resident of Mercer County. He was a retired coal miner and was a member of the UMWA. He also had served in the US National Guard. He was a former resident of Old Bramwell Road for 45 years before moving to Rt. 20. He has spent the last three years as a resident of the Maples where he enjoyed playing Bingo and giving out candy.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Roger Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where Doug Powers, Grat Slade, Darrell Powers, Dwayne Powers, Jerome Wolkoff and Gene Buckner will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
