Joe Ann Howell

Joe Ann Eller Howell, age 81, of 515 15th Street North, Jacksonville Beach, FL died on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Community Hospice in Jacksonville. Born on April 27, 1932 in McComas, WV, she was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Annie Gillenwater Eller. She had lived in Jacksonville Beach for the past 46 years. She was raised in Bluewell but left at the age of 18 and traveled to Washington, DC where she met her husband-to-be, Sid G. Howell. Sid was in the military, and the couple traveled and spent time in the Philippines, Virginia Beach, San Diego, and Hong Kong, and settled and ultimately retired in Jacksonville Beach. Joe Ann was an avid bowler and a member of the Jacksonville Women’s Bowling Association. She worked for the MWR Department at the Mayport Naval Station for 20 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sid G. Howell; brothers, Paul, Charles, and Fred Eller; and sisters, Sue Dill, Jean Bates, Marie Mallory, and Linda Eller. Survivors include: Son: Sid T. Howell and wife Ellen of Jacksonville Beach, FL Daughter: Sherri Howell and husband Eric of Atlantic Beach, FL Brother: Jimmy Eller and wife Patti of Bluewell, WV Sister: Shirley Eller of Beltsville, MD Sister-in-Law: Edna Eller-Barlow of Bluewell, WV Grandsons: Sidney Howell and wife Sarah of Jacksonville, FL Cole Howell of Jacksonville, FL Michael Howell of Atlantic Beach, FL Great-Grandsons: Tristen and Conner Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. James Milam officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
