On October 2, 2013 Wiley "Wild" Bill Simpson passed over to glory while at home with family following a long
illness. He had lived on Stover Road in Mt. Hope for the past 22 years with his daughter, Janis and her husband
Doug Williams. Born in McDowell County he is the son of the late Bill and Pearl Simpson. He accepted Jesus as
his Savior many years ago and is a member of the Body of Christ. He worked in the coal mines for 42 years to
support his family and many others. He served our country as an Army soldier in the Korean War. He married
Della Elizabeth Blevins on October 17th, 1953, and they raised a family of five plus, helping others in need. Wild
Bill loved family and family time and was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and teaching
others to enjoy the same. Music and singing was a special part of his life and he had taught himself how to play the
guitar and the harmonica. He always gave selflessly to help others even if he did without. Throughout his life he
touched many lives in many positive ways and will be missed dearly. He will forever live on in the hearts of the
many lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Della Elizabeth Simpson, son, Steven Keith Simpson, his parents, Bill and
Pearl Simpson, brothers, Silas Mullins and Curtis Simpson, sisters, Gertrude Sizemore and Gladys Church. He is
survived by his brothers, Donald Simpson and his wife Carol, Harold Simpson and his wife Shirley, sisters Hydrith
Sizemore, Leona Muncy and her husband Randy. He also leaves behind his children Janis and her husband
Douglas Williams, of Mt. Hope, Wiley and Debbie Simpson of lndiana, Betty and Kenny O'Neal of Fayetteville,
WV, Tammy Holdren of Winston Salem, N.C., and Steven's wife, Rhonda Simpson of Montcalm, WV. He has 17
grandchildren, Nikki and her husband Dave, Ashley, Aaron and wife, Katie, Allie and husband Andy, Jesse and her
husband Josh, Erika, Travis and his wife Kattie, Matthew and his wife Melissa, Austin, Shawn, Dustin, Justin,
Cheyanne, Brittny, ReKai and her husband Eric and Stephanie and her husband Tim. Also left behind to cherish his
memory are Heather and Mandy who are two very special angels who took such wonderful care of their Papaw in
the late part of his life. Also surviving are 15 great grandchildren, Luke, Hayleigh, Adam, Destiny, Bo, Sophie,
Layla, Stevie, Brandon, Schuylar, Zane, Shaye, Lyric, Ashley, and Tiffany. There are many others that recognized him
as "Dad or Papaw", they are too numerous to name.
Friends and family may pay their respects at Cravens-Shires Funeral home in Bluewell on Friday from 6-8 PM with funeral services following at 8:00PM with Rev. Harold Simpson officiating. Burial will follow on Saturday at the Simpson Family Cemetery in Algoma Hollow.
