Mary Belcher

Mary Adaline Taylor Belcher passed away on August 19, 2013 at the South Roanoke Nursing Home, Roanoke, Virginia. She was born in Craig County, Virginia, on February 19, 1919 to the late Egbert Minar and Texanna Lugar Taylor. She was the niece of the late Cordelia Lugar Estes. She was a graduate of the 1939 Registered Nursing Program of the Lewis Gale Hospital, Roanoke, Virginia. She began her nursing career as a Nurse for Pocahontas Fuel Company. Mary served as an Instructor in the Practical Nursing Program at Ramsey School, Bluefield, West Virginia. She later became the Assistant Director of Nursing at the Bluefield Sanitarium Hospital and worked at Bluefield Regional Hospital, Bluefield, West Virginia. Mary was preceded in death by her husband William W. Belcher and her brothers William Pendleton Taylor and Albert Barney Taylor. She is survived by her daughter Doris Ann Belcher Hamilton, Roanoke, Virginia, and her son William Taylor Belcher, Charlotte, North Carolina, her son-in-law Walter Craig Hamilton, Jr., and her daughter-in-law Sue Ann Robinson Belcher, her grandchildren Brian Taylor Hamilton, Anna Hamilton Turner, Emily Belcher Reynolds and Andrew William Belcher and her great grandchildren Lawson Taylor Hamilton, Savannah Madison Hamilton, Liam Guy Hamilton, Toure D. Turner, Jr., Payton Olivia Turner, Trey Douglas Turner, Tyler Dee Turner, Connor William Belcher and Chloe Robinson Reynolds. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law Carol Duncan Taylor, her nieces Jeanette Taylor Kremer, Brenna Taylor Rose, Janice Taylor Price and her nephew Glenn William Taylor. Mary treasured the frequent visits of Carol Duncan Taylor, Jeanette Taylor Kremer and Brenna Taylor Rose. Survivors also include a special companion and caregiver Ugurtha Gregory. The services of Dr. William Ball and the staff of South Roanoke Nursing Home were invaluable. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your church or favorite charity. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Rev. James Milam officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 11:00AM-12:30PM at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell. Those wishing to attend graveside services are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30.
