Helen Marie Lester

Helen Marie Lester, 93 years of age of Montcalm, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, where she had resided at 306 Rhododendron Lane, Bluefield, WV for the past eleven months with Cathy and Sam. Helen was born on April 27, 1920 on Belcher Mountain in Anawalt, WV. She was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Ida Reedy Mercer. She had been a resident of Montcalm and a member of Montcalm United Methodist Church for 64 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and sang a beautiful alto in the church choir. She loved her church family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Glen A. Lester; one infant daughter, Barbara Sue; one grandson, Glen Eugene Lester, Jr.; ex-daughter-in-law, Barbara Taylor Lester; six sisters, Bessie, Grace, Mae, Pauline, Pearl, and Rachael; three brothers, CF, Jack, and Jim. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include her son, Glenn Eugene Lester and wife Peggy of Blountville, TN; daughters, Cathy Foy and husband Sam of Bluefield and JoAnn Whitteker and husband Paul of Montcalm; four grandchildren, Donna Lester Shrewsbury and husband Jamie of Roanoke, VA, Brian Foy and wife Sherri of Bluefield, Tina Foy Ellis and husband Chris of Fayetteville, WV, and Sara Foy of Scituate, MA; and six great-grandchildren, Aaron and Todd Shrewsbury, Trevor and Brooke Foy, and Emma and Jack Ellis. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30pm Tuesday, August 13 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. David Ratcliff officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11am Wednesday at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Brian and Trevor Foy, Jamie and Aaron Shrewsbury, Chris Ellis, and Steve Whitteker. Jack Ellis and Todd Shrewsbury will serve as honorary pallbearers. Those attending graveside services should meet at the funeral home on Wednesday morning by 10:45am. Friends may call this evening from 6pm – 7:30pm at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell. A special thanks to Hospice Compassus, especially TJ and Marie, for their loving care.
