Sherman Julius Horton of Bluefield, WV, died on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital, following a long battle with cancer.
Born July 25, 1938, he was the son of the late James J. Horton and Mary Jane Miller Horton. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Lantange of Arizona, a brother, Stanley J. Horton of Speedway, WV and a sister, Shelby J. Alderman of Ohio, who passed away on March 5, 2013.
Sherman attended Athens High School. He served his military service as a member of Army National Guard. He had retired from Otis Elevator Company, now United Technologies. Sherman was a member of the Church of Christ at Maple View since 1977; until his illness he was an active member of the Gospel Truth Sunday School class, the D.M.A. group for seniors, a trustee of the Church; served on the Maintenance and Grounds
Committee, and worked at the church in many capacities and was always willing to share his faith and his love of the Lord with others.

Daughter, Julie A. West of Bluefield, WV
Son, Sherman J. Horton, II and wife Christina of Lake Milton, OH
one granddaughter and two great grandsons
He is also survived by a special sister, Sible Jane Hall and husband Mike of Speedway, WV
Brother, Sherrell Jack Horton and wife Betty of VA.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Minister Tony Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call from 1:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
