Howard Luther Morris

Howard Luther Morris, age 90, of Wolfe Creek Highway, Rocky Gap, VA died on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at his home. Born on January 10, 1923 in Algoma, WV, he was a son of the late Ballard Talmadge and Christine Mitchem Morris. He had gone to work in the coal mines at the age of 18 and had retired as an electrician. He was a member of the UMWA Local 6183. He had lived in Rocky Gap for the past 30 years. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 great-grandchildren, Robbie Woods and Arlis Morris; 2 brothers, Arthur and Edgar Morris; 3 sisters, Ethel and Thelma Grose and Margie Harsanyi. Survivors include: Wife: Vera Louise Grose Morris of the home Sons: Jerry Morris and wife Gwen of Falls Mills, VA Luther Morris and wife Carolyn of Bluewell, WV Randall Morris of Bluewell, WV Frank Morris and wife Joan of Glenwood, WV Russell Morris and wife Jeanne of Princeton, WV Daughter: Ethel Thorne and husband Robert of Lerona, WV Brother: Ballard Morris and wife Loretta of Bluewell, WV Sisters: Erma Severt of Bluewell, WV Ruth Workman of Lewisburg, WV 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Eddie Johnson officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell. Serving as pallbearers will be Marty Morris, Todd Morris, John Thorne, Jack Woods, Jr., Lucas Woods, and Sean Morris. Friends may call on Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
