John Calvin Ball

John Calvin Ball, 61, of Augusta Street Ext., Bluefield, WV, passed away on July 4, 2013 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA after a brief illness. Born on September 30, 1951 in Bluefield, he was a son of the late Virginia Heaton Ball and Sandy Bradford Ball. John graduated from Bluefield High School and recently retired from Bluestone Coal Company. He was a member of the UMWA and the Bluefield Elks Lodge. He was a loving father, brother and friend. John always found time to help all who called on him. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Rick Yearout. Survivors include: Wife: Gerry Ball of the home Son: Jeremy Ball of Greensboro, NC Stepdaughter: Debbie Yearout Bucher and husband Patrick of Camp Hill, PA Brothers: Jack Ball of Salisbury, NC Jim Ball and wife Debbie of Bland, VA Sisters: Jeri Snyder and husband Randy of Bluefield Jeannie Simmons and husband Bob of Rocky Gap, VA Granddaughter: Laura Phlegar and husband Denny and two great grandsons of Youngsville, NC Niece: Vicky Ball Fleming and husband of Richmond, VA Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 6:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. W.D. Hasty officiating. John’s closest friend, Bruce Remines and brother Jack Ball will also be speaking. Burial will follow at a later date at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Friends may call from 5-6 PM at the funeral home.
