Bernice "June" B. Brown

Bernice B. “June” Brown, 84, of Bluefield, WV, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born on May 13, 1929, in Castlewood, VA, where she received her education before moving to Bluefield, WV. She was a devoted member of First AME Zion Church where over the years she served in many capacities. She retired from American Mine Research in Rocky Gap, VA. A loving Mother to her only daughter, a fun loving Sister, beloved “Granny” to her grandchildren, cherished soul mate to her “Pooh” and caring friend to many, Bernice had a generous spirit and was always full of life. She loved to make people laugh and smile. She was also a passionate gardener and grew beautiful plants and flowers that adorned her home and others. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Gladys V. Bundy. She is survived by daughter, Frances Brown of Greensboro, NC, sister Elizabeth Tynes and husband Lee of Bluefield, WV, brother Samuel P. Bundy and wife Allene of New Bern, NC, granddaughters Angela Brown of Greensboro, NC, Letisha Smith and husband Derrick of Charlotte, NC, great grandson Dereon Smith-her “Bay Bay”, nephews Michael Combs and Jeffrey Bundy, her beloved ”Collie Pooh”, Colin W. Showalter, of Bluefield, WV, who has been a devoted, loving companion to his “Juney Pooh” for over 30 years, and a host of other loving family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Road, (Bluewell), Bluefield, WV, with Reverend Justina Young officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 A.M. -11:00 A. M. on July 6, 2013. Entombment will follow the service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 450 Courthouse Road, Princeton, WV.
