Carolyn "Carol" Duffy

Carolyn “Carol“ Duffy, 83, a resident of The Havens on New Hope Road in Princeton, WV, formally of 1213 College Avenue, Bluefield, WV passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness. Born on September 18, 1929 in Beaver, WV she was the daughter of the late Arthur Wauhop and her late mother, Alma. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Duffy, her sisters Betty, Mildred and Jane and her brother Jackie. She is survived by one daughter Maureen and Jim of the Hampton Roads, Virginia area, one son Stephen, wife Cathy and two grandchildren Erin and John of Bluefield, WV and one brother, Mark Wauhop and wife Debbie of the Baltimore, MD area. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws Genvieve Duffy of Rockville, MD, Grace Willems of the Milwaukee, WI area and many very special nieces and nephews. Carol spent most of her life working life as a secretary with various employers including the Army Recruiting Center, the US Department of Defense at the Pentagon, Hudson Motor Corporation, Paramount Pictures, and locally with Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and briefly with the Mercer County Board of Education. Prior to her decline in health, she faithfully participated with many activities within the church and regularly supported local charitable programs to assist in the community. Her most memorable trait was her quick wit and wicked sense of humor. Always ready with a joke, she never shied away from an opportunity to share a smile and laughter with whomever she encountered. A memorial celebration of her life will be conducted at 11:00am, on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield, WV, with Fr. Paul Wharton presiding. Graveside blessing will immediately follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Bluewell, WV. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to one of her favorite charities, including the Bluefield Union Mission, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Food Pantry and /or The Mercer County Human Society.
