Jo Ann East, age 75, of Princeton, WV, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013, following a long illness, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Born May 7, 1938 in Cambria VA, she was the daughter of Beatrice Burton Hamlin of Princeton, WV and the late Oscar Hamlin. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Robert D. East, of the home, her daughter, Cheryl East-Senker, and her grandson Samuel East-Senker, both of Houston, TX.
Remaining family members, in addition to her mother include, her brothers, Donald Hamlin, Princeton, WV, Ronald Hamlin, Pembroke, VA, and John Hamlin, Christiansburg VA. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother Oscar Hamlin Jr., and sister, Ruby Hamlin.
She had been a resident of Princeton for 47 years and was a former employee of Rockwell International for 10 years, Owens Realty for 6 years and the Independent Business Owner of Jo's Furniture and Blinds for 15 years. She attended Concord College and Bluefield State College. She was known for her strong personality, compassion, and great zest for life. She loved nature and had a tender heart for animals, nurturing many wild animals and strays. Most notably her cherished pet, Harley.
As per her wishes she will be cremated. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Road [Bluewell], Bluefield WV 24701 is serving the family.
