William David Burnett

William David “Bill” Burnett, age 91, of Harry Heights Road, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield. Born on September 17, 1921 in Cedar Bluff, VA, he was a son of the late William Samuel and Mary Elizabeth Cordle Burnett. Bill was a descendent of John Burnett of Aberdeen, Scotland, who came to America in the early 1600’s. He had been a resident of Bluefield for 50 years and was a member of the Brushfork United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served in World War II. He was a member of the Riley Vest Post #9 American Legion, Bluefield. He was a retired Engineer from N&S Railroad with 42 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Samuel, Robert, James, Emory, Tom and Albert Burnett; and his sisters, Ella Martin, Margaret Griffith, Nora Griffith, Mattie Griffith, Nell Williams and Hattie Brown. He was the last surviving member of his family. Survivors include: Wife: Elizabeth Klebitz Burnett of the home Son: David Burnette, II of Bluefield Daughter: Sharon Burnette Boyer and husband Locke Boyer of Charlottesville, VA 5 grandchildren: Stephanie Boyer Dillman and husband Rodney of Virginia Beach, VA Jonathan Locke Boyer and wife Kasi of Hagerstown, MD Jeffrey David Boyer and wife Amy of Richmond, VA Eric Andrew Boyer and wife Stacie of Durham, NC Leslie Ann Burnette of Bluefield 7 great grandchildren Many nieces and nephews in the Richlands, VA area. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 12:00PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Dorothy Stewart officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 PM at the Green Hills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Friends may call from 11:00-12:00 at the funeral home.
