Donald Ray Harris

Donald Ray Harris, age 81, of 264 Matilda Place, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his home. Born on February 21, 1931 in Jenkinjones, he was a son of the late Alexander and Mamie Baldwin Harris. He had been a resident of Green Valley for 27 years and was a retired corrections officer. He was a veteran of the US Marines, served in Korea and was a member of the AARP. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Woods; and 2 brothers, Bill & Ralph Harris. Survivors include: Wife: Frances Ann Stevenson Proffitt Harris of the home 1 son: Ronald Alvin Proffitt of Mechanicsville, VA 2 daughters: Sonia Marlene Bugh of Bluefield Joyce Ann Cardwell of Mocksville, NC 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren 1 brother: Richard Wade Harris of Bluefield 2 sisters: Forrest Newton of Union, Sc Ruth Myers of Lexington, NC Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 3:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Dana Hambrick officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call on Friday from 2:00-3:00 at the funeral home.
