James Alton Turner

BLUEFIELD— On Saturday, December 22 the Angels called to rest James Alton “Jim” Turner 77 of Bluefield, WV. Jim was born April 26, 1935 in Bluefield to the late Charles and Mildred Turner. He was an only child and the last surviving member of his family. Jim was a veteran of the United States Air Force in the 1950’s and was a Book keeper and Office Manager by trade. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his friends, who were all like a second family to him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by dear friends; Barbara Hall, Darlene Coeburn and Billy Hoops and his beloved Poodle, Sami, who for sixteen years was always by his side. Survivors include; his canine companion, Big Man, whom he loved dearly. Jim was an avid supporter of the Animal Shelter and treated his dogs as if they were his children. He is also survived by many friends that were like a second family to him, we were all honored to have him in our lives. Left to cherish his memories are; Junior Hall and children, Rebecca and husband Gary, Ricky and wife Vanessa, Carol Dillon and husband Bobby and their children, Michelle “Diva”, Bobby Joe and wife Tiffany, and lifelong friend, Agee Smith of Glenwood. Jim was a very caring and giving person, who will be greatly missed. “Best friends are a gift and I was truly honored to be one of yours, I will miss you and will always remember you.” Love you, Carol Sue. Funeral Services for Mr. Turner will be conducted Saturday December 29, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. James Bassett officiating. Friends may call at the funeral Home Saturday December 29, 2012 from 10:00A.M. until time of services. Serving the family as pallbearers will be friends of Mr. Turner .
