Barbara Puckett Lambert, a resident of Skygusty, WV, was born September 4, 1921 in
Saltville, VA, and departed this life December 18.
She was the daughter of Floyd and Elizabeth Puckett and was married to Major Lambert
in June 1947. She is survived by three daughters: Marie Collier and son-in-law Russell
of Blacksburg, VA; Brenda Johnson and son-in-law Ray of Tazewell, VA; and Ava
Hensley, Skygusty.
She was a lifelong resident of McDowell County except for a brief period during WWII
in which she worked in a civilian capacity for the US Navy in Norfolk, VA.
Her progeny includes six grandchildren: Ken Hensley, Jewell Hensley McSweeney,
Haley and Andrew Cox, Catie Boyd, Amy Johnson Melvin; and ten great grandchildren.
In addition, she is survived by four sisters, Mary Kate Graham, Chris Graham, Nan
Thompson, Sally Mitchem; two brothers, Tom and James (Riley) Puckett; as well as
numerous nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond.
She was an expert seamstress and plied her professional skills not only at home but at a
sewing factory in Kimball, Lee's Dry Cleaning in Welch, and for the Stevens Clinic
Hospital annex for office draperies. Her passions were quilting and collecting antiques.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 3:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. James Peery officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where Ray Johnson, BJ Melvin, Ken Hensley, Michael Scarbrough, Joe O’Neal, David Mounts will serve as pallbearers.
