Howard Wise Linkous

Mr. Howard Wise Linkous, age 90, of 1455 Stewart Street, Welch, WV went to be with our Lord, Thursday December 13,2012in Davidson, NC. Mr. Linkous was a native to McDowell County, WV. He was born on December 6,1922 in War, WV to the late Mr. Otis and Ida May Linkous. Howard was a graduate of VPI University where he played football. Howard later pursued a career as a Wild Life Resource Officer. He was a retired Army veteran serving our country during WWII. Howard married Carol Sue Bowles on June 4, 1954 and made Welch, WV their home. Howard was a avid sportsman, he loved hunting and fishing. He was West Virginia's skeet shooting champion for 3 years. Howard was an active member of First Baptist Church in Welch. He served as a deacon, choir member and Board of Trustees member. Howard was loved by many friends and family. He was a true inspiration to all those whom he met. He will be truly missed by all. Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sue Linkous; son Mark Linkous and wife Carmen of Charlotte, NC; son Robert Lee Linkous and wife Annette of Denver, NC; 3 grandchildren Maghan, Jennifer and Austin Lee, all of Denver, NC and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV on Sunday, December 16, 2012. The family will receive friends and family from 2:00-3:00 before the memorial service. Following the memorial service, dinner will be served at Ryan's, 516 Commerce Dr in Bluefield, VA. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting a memorial be made in honor of Howard to First Baptist Church in Welch, WV or Presbyterian Hospice and Pallative Care of Charlotte, NC.
