Roxie Carlene Asbury

BLUEFIELD — Roxie Carlene Asbury, 73, of 130 Frankie St., Bluefield, formerly of Coaldale, passed away Dec. 4, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Rita Poe and husband Darrell. Born June 16, 1939 in Oakvale, she was a daughter of the late George and Willie Thomas Bailey. Mrs. Asbury was a member of the Lorton Lick Wesleyan Church and a resident of Mercer County all her life. She had been a C.N.A. for twenty-six years and had worked at Cumberland Care Nursing Home. “Mom has fought the good fight, and has finished her course” (II Tim. 4:7). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Stewart Asbury; a sister, Betty Miller; and a nephew, Kimmie Miller. Survivors include daughters, Freda Wright and husband Barry of Bluefield, Va., Rita and husband Darrell Poe of Bluewell, Reba and Frankie Whitt of Brushfork; a step-son, Rickie Asbury and wife Sandy of Dangerfield, TX; three sisters, Daisy Adair of Fredericksburg, Va., Melissa Bailey of Grundy, Va., Shirley Brown of Cumberland, Ky.; special nephew; Bryant Miller of Coaldale, WV, special nieces; Jenifer Miller, Tonya Miller, Michelle Miller, Amy Williams, six grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Judy England of Florida. Funeral services for Mrs. Asbury will be conducted Friday Dec. 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Wright officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery located in Bluewell. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Barry Wright Jr., Kevin Wright, Darrell Poe Jr., Freddie Poe, Tyler Poe, Frankie Whitt, Bryant Miller, and Marty Wooldridge. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Amanda Wooldridge. Friends may call at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Thursday Dec. 6, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Cravens-Shires funeral home ( 3431 Coal Heritage Road, Bluefield, WV 24701) in Bluewell will be serving the Asbury Family.
