Emma Hanchock Lawrence, 90, of Bluefield, WV; formerly of Maybeury, WV passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at her home. Born on July 3, 1922, in Upland, WV, she was the daughter of the late Wash and Julia Lahosky Hanchock. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Bluefield. She was a homemaker known for her kindness, generosity and wonderful cooking. Emma loved the Lord, diligently read her Bible, and as a true prayer warrior she prayed constantly for her family, friends and her country. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph J. Lawrence and daughter Brenda G. Lawrence. Emma was the last surviving and longest living of 16 siblings including two who died as infants. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Two special nephews, whom she dearly loved, helped care for her; Donald E. Hanchock of Princeton, and Dennis (Danny) G. Roebuck of Bluefield. Funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, WV with Father Mark Tyson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Friends and family may call on Monday, September 17, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Rt. 2, Box 677, Bluefield, WV 24701.
