The Bluefield area lost a dedicated public servant on Wednesday, August 29,
2012. Ronnie "Bub" Ferrell of 142 Lindbergh Road passed away suddenly at Bluefield
Regional Medical Center. He was born in Mingo County on October 25, 1955, but
moved with his family to Cleveland, Ohio at an early age.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Meda and French Chafin,
paternal grandparents, Adron and Emma Ferrell; father, Eugene "Spark" Ferrell and
sisters Debbie Papp and Wanda West.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother,
Marge Chafin Ferrell, his best friend and life companion, Lita Asbury, brothers Eugene
"Sonny", Marty and Jerry Ferrell; a sister, Kathy Colosi; sons Ronnie and Brenton Ferrell and their mother
Judy Dale; five grandchildren; Jack Swiney, Hannah Ferrell, Abby Ferrell, Riley Ferrell, and Lucas Ferrell; special cousin and pal, Eddie Mahon, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Ronnie was an accomplished musician who performed with many of the legends of
country music.
He moved from Cleveland to Bluefield and was employed as a patrolman with Bluefield
Police Department in 1983. He quickly moved through the ranks and retired as a
lieutenant in November 2005. During his tenure with Bluefield Police Department, he
received numerous interdepartmental awards as well as awards from several police
agencies with whom it worked. As a officer with the police department he was assigned
to work with the regional task force under the direction of the United States Attorney's
Office.
In August 2009, he began his second career of public service. He began working as an
EMT with Bluefield WV Rescue Squad. He was a capable and compassionate care
giver. He was well respected by his peers and the patients he served.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Deliverance Temple Church in Brushfork with Rev. Eddie Day and Rev. Carlos Dingus officiating. Masonic services will be conducted and the Bluefield WV Police Dept and the Bluefield WV Rescue Squad will serve as honor guard and pallbearers.
Friends may call on Saturday evening from 6-8PM at Deliverance Temple Church in Brushfork and on Sunday prior to services from 1:00 – 2:00 at the church.
