Gracie Mae Mitchell Burks, age 67, of Princeton, passed into her heavenly home on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital after suffering from a lingering illness.
Born on May 17, 1945 in Welch, she was a daughter of the late Fred Ernest Mitchell and Lillie Virginia Graham and also a stepfather, Harry Franklin Graham. She was a former resident of Stewart Street in Welch and also of Anawalt. She was the former head cook for the McDowell County Board of Education for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Marlene Underwood; three brothers, Donald Tolley, Howard Mitchell and Freddy Mitchell; a sister Nancy Romine; and a great Grandson, Hunter Mitchem.

Grandchildren: Jonathan Burks and wife Leslie, Ryan Burks, Justin Underwood, Jr., and fiancée Ashley Knapp, Leanna Nierman and husband Mark, Cindi Davis and husband Jerry, Kaylee Potter and Miranda Mitchem and husband Shannon.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Thurman Belcher and Rev. Alvin Belcher officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Underwood, Jr., Jonathan Burks, Ryan Burks, Jeff Catron, Mark Newman and Jerry Davis.
