Melvin “Red” Helmandollar, age 85, Bluefield, WV passed away on Thursday June 14, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital following a prolonged illness.
Born on December 29, 1926 in Montcalm, WV, he was a son of the late Charlie and Sylvia Bowman Helmandollar. He was reared as a child in Montcalm and was a graduate of McLains Business College. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and later served as a Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division in the US Army. He was a 13 year veteran of the Columbus Ohio Police Department and a founding partner of Kings Tire Service in Bluewell, WV. He retired of Florida and returned to the Bluefield area before becoming ill. He was a member of the Bramwell Masonic Lodge #45 AF&AM.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Helmandollar; a daughter, Pamela Helmandollar; a grandson, Jon; and a brother, Hershel Helmandollar.

Brother: Bobby Helmandollar and wife Lillian of Bluewell
Grandsons: Shaun Mooney and wife Lori of Mt. Sidney, VA
Jason Helmandollar and wife Cordi of Columbus, OH
Granddaughter: Lori DePietro of Columbus, OH
Six great-grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Larry Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where family and friends will be serving as pallbearers. The West Virginia Honor Guard and Mercer County Veterans Council will be performing Military Graveside Honors.
