Bessie Rae Severt

Bessie Rae Severt, 78, of Glenwood, WVa. peacefully went home to be the Lord, Sunday evening, April 1, 2012 at Burke Health and Rehabilitation Hospital after an extended illness. She was born October 22, 1933 in Eckman, WVa., the daughter of the late John and Viney Comer. She retired from Rockwell International in Princeton and was a member of Fellowship Community Church on Athens Rd., Princeton. In addition to her parents, Bessie is preceded in death by sisters Emily Comer and Edith Parks, and by brothers Elbert, Simon and Joe Comer. Surviving family members include brothers, Raymond Comer and wife Jeanette of Princeton, WVa., Garrett Comer of Welch, WVa. and Johnny Comer of Elk City, OK., and sister Lilly Burgess of Lexington,KY, daughters Lori Hull and husband, Dave of Springfield, Va., Dana McPeak and husband Tony, of Bluefield, WVa., grandchildren Christopher Hubbard, Alana Simpson and husband Shawn, also of Bluefield, WVa., Jason Hull and wife, Krystal of Hubert, N.C. and Rob Hull and wife, Jennifer of Arlington, Va., great-grandchildren, Steven Simpson, Azreal and Rose Hull and many nephews and nieces. Bess was a kind and thoughtful person, always willing to give of herself. Many times, she took care of elderly and invalid individuals and regularly baked cakes as part of the church ministry for the young men of Appalachian Teen Challenge. She was a model of courage, strength and steadfast love to her loving daughters. No matter what adversity arose, she overcame with wisdom and grace that came from her relationship with her Lord Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be held at Craven-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 1:00p.m. with Pastor Eddie Pettrey officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV. In accordance with Mom’s wishes, the casket will be closed. Songs will be sung and praises will be raised to God to celebrate such wonderful and selfless life. She ran her race, kept the faith and endured to the end to be gathered, at last, into the arms of her loving Savior. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Severt family.
