Bluefield, VA- Dalton Woodrow Turner, 88, of 222 Wintercreek Drive, Bluefield, VA, passed away Wednesday January 25, 2012 in a Bluefield hospital.
Born February 26, 1923 in Rich Creek, VA, he was the son of the late Charles Henry and Hattie Mae Blankenship Turner. Mr. Turner was of the Methodist faith and had been a resident of Bluefield, VA for the past three years. Mr. Turner was had lived most of his life in McDowell county where he worked at the Elkhorn Valley Grocery in Keystone and Welch, and the Island Creek Coal Company Esso/Exxon Gas station and grocery store. He was a veteran of WW II having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son; Dalton Woodrow Turner, Jr.
Survivors include his wife; Lorraine Lee Copeland Turner of the home, a daughter; Mitzi Charlene Turner of Bluefield, VA, a grandson; Jason Douglas Belcher of Glen Allen, VA, and nieces; Lebata Sue Norris and her husband Robert Norris, and Wanda Slover and her husband Louis Daniel Slover, and devoted care givers of Bluefield Regional Medical Center’s I.C.U. and C.C.U. staff.
Funeral services for Mr. Turner will be conducted Saturday January 28, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. from the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Susan Rector officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery located in Rich Creek, VA where Military grave side rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Serving the family as pallbearers will be friends and family.
