Donnie Anderson, Sr.

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Donnie Monroe Anderson Sr., age 68, of 5691 Abbs Valley Road, Bluefield, Va., passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. Born on February 14, 1943 in Boissevain, Va., he was a son of the late Ralph and Virginia Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Anderson; and a grandson, Estell Edwards Jr. He had become disabled while working for Consolidated Coal Company for 29 years. He loved working with his hands and especially woodworking. He loved the great outdoors and loved sitting in the woods while watching deer, squirrels and other wildlife. He also loved to go fishing with his fishing buddies every chance he got. He was truly a loving husband, a great father, grandfather and friend. He will be sadly missed. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley Dawson Anderson of the home; son, Donnie Anderson Jr. and wife Judy of Falls Mills, Va.; daughters, Rhonda Edwards and husband Estell of Abbs Valley, Va., Lisa Marrs Hale of Richlands, Va.; grandchildren, Adam Edwards (his fishing buddy), Arissa Anderson (his pretty girl), Troy Anderson (his 4-wheeler buddy), Amber Creasy and husband Keith, Daniel Marrs; great-grandchildren, Logan, Alex and Andrew Creasy; brothers, Richard Anderson and wife Sharon of Clarksville, Va., Ernest Anderson and wife Thelma of Glen White, W.Va.; sister, Gail Farr of Beckley, W.Va.; brothers-in-law, Gab Dawson and wife Jackie and Alvin Dawson and wife Kathy; sisters-in-law, Ruby Mathena and husband Phillip, Hazel Whitehead and husband Joe, and Wanda Parton. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Reverend Carlos Hess officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Serving as pallbearers will be Gab Dawson, Alvin Dawson, Phillip Mathena, Donnie Anderson Jr., Estell Edwards, Shawn Brown, Leslie Brown and David Farr.
