David Blackwell, age 61, of Route 1 Box 497 (Littlesburg Road), Bluefield, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Born on November 7, 1949 in Dott, he was a son of Winifred Mae Shrewsbury Blackwell of Rock and the late Berman H. Blackwell. David was a retired coal miner having worked 34 years. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the East River Mtn. Chapter Trout Unlimited. He is survived by his: Loving wife of 41 years: Marie Wharen Blackwell of the home Mother: Winifred Mae Shrewsbury Blackwell of Rock 1 Daughter: Laura King and husband Matt of Bluewell 3 grandchildren: David, Nicholas, and Sammy King Brother: Darrell Blackwell and wife Sherry of Bluefield, VA Sister: Linda Farmer and husband Jerry of Lashmeet 6 nephews, 5 nieces Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 103 Durhing, Bluefield, WV 24701 with Rev. Terry Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where Darrell Blackwell, Roy Walker, Jason Farmer, Jerry Farmer, Jim Mullins, Dwayne Dixon, Dwayne Duncan, and Buford Saddler. Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, PO Box 888, Bluefield, WV 24701 or Mercer County Bible in the Schools, PO Box 543, Bluefield, WV 24701.
