Harvey McCroskey, 69, of Rocky Gap, VA, formerly of Anawalt, WV, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Princeton Community Hospital after a year and half battle with cancer.
Born May 14, 1942 in Jenkinjones WV, he attended Heritage Baptist Church in Bland, VA and was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. A former employee of the McDowell County Board of Education, with 5 1/2 years of service, Consolidation Coal Company, with 25 years of service and the New River Foundry with 10 1/2 years of service. He was the son of the late Brady & Gladys Presley McCroskey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill & Herb McCroskey.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ruby Marie Walker McCroskey of the home, two daughters, Debbie Shrader of Rocky Gap and her husband Rod, Vickie Magyar of Bland, VA and her husband Bill, and one son, Scott McCroskey of Wytheville, VA and his wife Stephanie; one sister Juanita DeTarville and husband Bob of Tacoma, WA, and three brothers, Bob McCroskey of Archdale, NC and wife Jean, Paul McCroskey of Flat Rock, MI and wife Mary and Luke McCroskey of Lenoir, NC; four grandchildren, Abby and Josh Shrader of Rocky Gap, VA, Samantha (Sam) Magyar of Bland, VA and Sophia McCroskey of Wytheville, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Reverends Travis Price and Donnie Farmer officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Bluewell. Pallbearers will be Scott McCroskey, Rod Shrader, Josh Shrader, Bill Magyar, ER Hughes and Steve Kelley. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Peery` and Rufus Shrader.
Friends may visit Thursday, September 29, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV.
