Roger Lee Bircham

Roger Lee Bircham, Sr., age 70, of PO Box 3052, Bluewell, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born on August 25, 1940 in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Hyman and Irene Tabor Bircham. He had been a resident of Bluewell for 50 years and was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired miner from Eastern Coal Associates in Keystone with 32 years and was a member of the UMWA. He was a lovable husband, dad, grandpa and friend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Bircham. Survivors include: Wife of 47 years: Kathy Marie Burgess Bircham of the home 1 daughter: Ida “Sissy” Lawson of Princeton 3 sons: Gordon Bennett Sutphin and wife Linda of SC Roger “Todd” Bircham, Jr. of Beckley Hector M. Bircham and wife Rhonda of Princeton 10 grandchildren: Tonja Brindle and husband John of SC Timmy Sutphin and wife Sally of SC Benny Sutphin of NC Cody and Dustin Lawson of Princeton Chrissy Bircham of Bluefield, VA Reba Bircham of Beckley Kelsey DeBorn, Patrick DeBorn and Kaylee Bircham of Princeton 4 great grandchildren: Ashley and Courtney Pattson of SC Megan and Chase Sutphin of SC 2 great-great grandchildren: Bryson and Shila Patton of SC 3 brothers: Jr Bircham of NC Sonny Bircham and wife Betty of NC Brad Bircham and wife Diane of NC 2 sisters: Louise Bircham of Richmond, VA Shirley Jones of Richmond, VA Several nieces and nephews Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Roger Carroll officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where Ronnie and Donald Sims, John Brindle, Timmy Sutphin, Eric Sexton, Allen Osborne, Benny Sutphin and Eric Poe will serve as pallbearers.
