Betty Foster age 83, of Bluewell, died Thursday August 11, 2011 at Dillon Point Assisted Living in Spartanburg, SC. Betty Ruth Blevins was born on December 31, 1927 in Coalwood, WV to Willie Calvin Blevins and Mary Sue Winfrey Blevins. She grew up in Montcalm, WV and graduated from Bramwell High School in 1945 where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She then moved with her sister Nancy to Washington, DC in 1945 where she completed training from the IBM Corporation and was a typist at the Department of the Navy. She married David Price Foster March 25, 1948. They moved to Bluewell, WV in 1957 where they raised their family and resided until July 2010. She is survived by her devoted husband David, her daughter and son and their spouses, Elaine and David Francisco of Spartanburg, SC, Jimmy Foster and Jay Knox of Atlanta, GA., and her two grandchildren Chris Francisco and Kara Francisco both of Atlanta, whom she adored. Surviving siblings include Edith Ratliff, Billy Blevins, Barbara Blevins, Grace Conley and Norma Smith. She was preceded in death by two siblings Nancy Foster and Jack Blevins. Other surviving family members are former housemates and in-laws Wayne (Juanita) and Bill Foster. Betty was a devoted member of Bluewell United Methodist Church and worked tirelessly to support all church activities. She so loved all of the “Ladies of the Kitchen” there. She loved to entertain family and friends and it just wasn’t a family event without Betty’s potato salad. She quilted, sewed, gardened, cooked and made the best homemade candies. Travel was a passion, and she visited 47 of the 50 United States. Her smile and sense of humor will be missed by all those who knew her. Friends and family will gather at Bluewell United Methodist Church on Sunday August 14, 2011 from 6-8pm to celebrate her life. We ask that all who have a humorous story feel free to share on this special evening. Betty would like to be remembered for her humor. Services will be held at Bluewell United Methodist Church at 11am Monday August 15, 2011 with Rev. Steve Rector officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bluewell United Methodist Church, Rt 4, Box 451,Warden Avenue, Bluewell, WV 24701.
