Vinson Conley Epperson, age 86, of 8 Estille Street, Princeton, WV, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston.
Born on July 7, 1925 in Maybeury, he was a son of the late Fred and Josephine Johnson Epperson. He had been a resident of Princeton for 35 years and was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a retired coal miner and section foreman. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Army, where he received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze stars; the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 bronze stars; a good conduct medal; bronze arrowhead and the Victory Medal World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine Epperson; his second wife, Cleo Epperson; and a son, Timothy R. Epperson, Sr.

Vinson Epperson, Jr. and Karen of Bluefield
3 daughters: Sheryl Oiler and Walter of Montcalm
Laurenda Stiltner and Leon of Tazewell, VA
Karen Meadows and Wayne of Marshville, NC
A granddaughter who was raised as his daughter: Regina Kipps and Clayton of Christiansburg, VA
17 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren
Sister: Golden Mae Gills of Bluefield
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Darryl Christian officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where military honors will be conducted by the WV Honor Guard and the Mercer County Veteran’s Council. Vinson Epperson, Brooks Epperson, Jeremy Meadows, Wayne Meadows, Brian Oiler, Chad Cox, Walter Oiler, and Timmy Smith will serve as pallbearers.
