Bernard Watkins

Bernard Owen Watkins, age 96, of PO Box 103, Montcalm, WV, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Born on May 11, 1915 in Crystal, he was a son of the late Jim and Icie Honaker Watkins. He had been a lifelong resident of Montcalm and was of the holiness faith. He was a retired carpenter and block mason. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served in World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lorraine Watkins; 6 brothers, Paul, Thurman, Roy, Roscoe, Ralph and Ray; and 1 sister, Lucille White. Survivors include: Son: Samuel Watkins and wife Ruby of Montcalm 3 grandchildren: Deborah Conley, Samuel Watkins, Jr., and Shelley Phillips 6 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren 2 sisters: Betty Shaw of Princeton Marjorie Wolfe of Bluefield Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 8:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Walter Shewbridge and Rev. Vernon Fields officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 1:30PM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Samuel Watkins, Jr., William Conley, and family and friends serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday at 1:00PM.
