James Willard Sigmon

James Willard Sigmon, age 88, of Rt. 1, Box 153 Bluefield, WV died on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 in Martinsville, VA. Born on July 5, 1922 in Rocky Mount, NC, he was a son of the late George and Nan Sigmon. He had lived at Rt 1, Bluefield for the past 23 years. He was a WWII veteran having served in the US Army. He was a retired coal miner with 30 years of service. He was a UMWA member. He was a member of the Pine Grove Church of Christ. He was an avid bowler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Reginald Sigmon; a step-mother, Irene Sigmon; and a brother, Kermit Sigmon. Survivors: Wife: Maxine Hurst Sigmon of the home Son: Richard Sigmon and wife Julia of Rt. 1, Bluefield, WV Daughters: Tammy Bailey and husband Ian of Bluefield, WV Susan Windle of Princeton, WV Brothers: Donald Sigmon of Sterling, VA Ronald Sigmon of Sterling, VA Dennis Sigmon of Princeton, WV Sister: Brenda Mills of Monroe County, WV 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Minister Gary Lamie officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Richard Sigmon, Justin Neel, Mark Neel, Charles Goode, David Thomason, Barry Sigmon, and Ian Bailey serving as pallbearers. Military graveside honors will be performed by the West Virginia Honor Guard and the Mercer County Veterans Council. Friends may call on Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. The family is accepting online condolences at www.cravens-shires.com. The Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is in charge of arrangements.
