John Nelson McGuire

John Nelson McGuire, age 88, of 1718 A Pomeroy Road, Salem Virginia, formerly of Bluewell, died on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Salem Health and Rehab Center. Born on September 10, 1922 in Orange County, VA, he was a son of the late John and Elsie May Asbury McGuire. He served in WWII in the Battery 275 Armored Field Artillery Battalion. He worked in the Lumber business and retired from the Dean Company in Princeton. He was also a lay speaker at Beartown Methodist, Herndon Methodist, and Bub Alpoca Methodist Churches. He served faithfully for 15 years while living in Bluewell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lucille McGuire Lamb; son-in-law, David Riley, Sr.; brothers, Thomas, Bernard, Ishimael, and William McGuire; and sisters, Virginia Butler and Juanitta Thompson. Survivors: Wife of 64 years: Opal Bailey McGuire Daughters: Ruby Greene and husband Ron of Salem, VA Louise Riley of Bluewell, WV Grandchildren: Lesia Cook and husband Mark of Herndon, WV David Riley, Jr. of Bluewell, WV Rhonda Quesenberry and husband Scott of Matthews, NC Brucina Cook and husband Larry of Stephenson, WV Great-Grandchildren: Mary Anthony Cook,II, Alex Quesenberry, and Tanner Cook Very Special Friends and neighbors: Mike and Mary Carter of Bluewell, WV Two sisters; Winfred Knuckles of Richmond, VA and Betty Yowell of Barboursville, WV A brother; Franklin McGuire of Richmond, VA Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Larry Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Serving as pallbearers will be David Riley, Larry Cook, Mark Cook and Anthony Cook. Friends may call on Friday from 12:00 Noon up until the service at 1:00 PM. The family is accepting online condolences at www.cravens-shires.com. The Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
