Opal Dane Stoker

Opal Dane Holbrook Stoker died Friday, May 13, 2011 in Beckley, W.Va., just 23 days short of her 100th birthday. She had been a resident of Beckley since 1968. Born June 5, 1911, in Ashe County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late John and Cora Long Holbrook. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, T. Roy Stoker; one son, Denver (D.M.) Stoker; brothers, Denver Holbrook, John A. Holbrook and Brit Holbrook; and sister Ina Holbrook Cleary. Survivors are sons Roy D. (Dick) Stoker of Hickory, N.C., Bobby C. and Marianna Hughes Stoker of Brandon, Fla., and daughter-in-law Louise Dawson Stoker of Bramwell. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Dana Stoker Cochran of Bramwell, Jonni Stoker and Tom Dunford of Burkes Garden, Va., Dr. Michael and Jenny Surface Stoker of Wytheville, Va., Leanna Stoker Teich and Dr. Lewis Teich of Bellvue, Colo., and Bryan and Shari Stoker of Eldersburg, Md.; and six great-grandchildren, Amanda Cochran of Bramwell, Michelle and Melissa Stoker of Eldersburg, Md., and Jonathan, Andrei and Maria Stoker of Wytheville. Also surviving are two sisters, Ina Holbrook Davis of N. Wilkesboro, N.C., and Jean Joins Miller of Laurel Springs, N.C. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 16, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley.
