Hazel Walker

PRINCETON, WV--- Hazel Walker, age 85, of Beulaville, NC, formerly of Princeton and Twin Branch, WV, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, May 10 ,2011 in Raleigh, NC. She was born on November 15, 1925 in Twin Branch and was the daughter of the late James Russell and Emma Knox Mowdy. She was the widow of Charles Edward Walker. In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, J.C. Mowdy, Hubert Mowdy, L.T. Mowdy, and Penny Mowdy. She was also preceded by two sisters, Martha Jean Mowdy and Leola Justice. Hazel was a homemaker for most of her life and was actively involved in the Women of the Church of God in both Davy and Brushfork, WV before moving to North Carolina. She served as President of the WCG in Davy. She was a member of God’s church and worshipped at Davy First Church of God and Brushfork First Church of God before moving to North Carolina. When she was able, she attended the Beulaville PFWB Church while in North Carolina. Survivors include Two daughters, Charlotte Ann and husband Jimmie Russ of Princeton, WV Ruth Ellen and husband William “Jay” Martin of Beulaville, NC With whom she made her home, her Grandson, Jimmie “Rusty” Russ, Jr. and wife Andria of Charlotte, NC One Granddaughter, Marsha Dawn Martin Brown and husband Douglas of Beulaville, NC Four Great-granddaughters, Tiffany Nichole Russ, Jessica Faith Russ, Morgan Alexis Brown, and Mallory Alise Brown. She loved her children and grandchildren greatly, but her great-grandchildren were the apples of her eye. One brother, Ralph Mowdy of Davy, WV She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Celebration service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV with Rev. Roy Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell, WV. Friends may call Friday May 13, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers.
