Betty Jean Underwood

Betty Jean Underwood, age 78, of 225 Royal Oak Road, North Tazewell, VA, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at a Bluefield hospital. Born on March 18, 1933 in McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Hazel Marie Osborne Carrington. She had been a resident of North Tazewell for 8 years and attended the Ada Chapel. She was known as the “Crochet Lady” by many as she loved to crochet. Ten years ago, she had the honor of having 3000 of her crocheted ornaments on the State Christmas tree at the WV State Capitol in Charleston. She also enjoyed attending and selling at flea markets and fairs and was a former silk loom weaver in PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul James Underwood; a son, Randall Joe Underwood; and a sister, Delores Osborne Woodie. Survivors include: 1 daughter:         Karen June Garrison and husband Billy of North Tazewell, VA 3 sons:  Alan Eugene Underwood of Bluefield                 Brian Darnell Underwood and wife Brenda of Rich Creek, VA                 Michael David Underwood and wife Donna of Bluefield 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren 1 brother:            Terry Stephen Osborne and wife Linda of Denver, PA Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. H.B. Underwood officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
