Alice Elizabeth Barnette

August 24, 1932 — March 20, 2011

Mrs. Alice “Betty” Elizabeth Barnette 78, of South Charleston, WV departed this earth to return home to the Lord on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Hubbard Hospice House of Charleston after a short illness. Her beloved family was by her side throughout. Betty was born in Sandlick, Mercer County, West Virginia on August 24, 1932. She was baptized at Sandlick Methodist Church where she was in addition a member of the congregation. She was a member of the 1950 graduating class of Bramwell High School and proudly embraced the notion of being one of the “Home of the Millionaires.” Betty was a spirited member of the John Young Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as the Kanawha Valley Golf Association. She was devoted to her family while she shall forever be missed, she shall never be forgotten by the untold who loved her. She was preceded in her departure by her parents G.R. Surface and Ethel I. Belcher Surface of Sandlick and her two sisters, Maxine Shrader of Sandlick and Helen King of Salem, Virginia Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 58 glorious years, Colonel Andy Barnette; her two children, Daughter and son in law, Mary and Bob Semder of Winfield and her Son and daughter in law, Donald and Diana Barnette of Point Pleasant; her grandchildren Jason Barnette, Esquire and spouse Nicki Barnette of Saint Albans, Christopher Semder, M.D. of Nashville, Tennessee, Todd Semder, D.D.S. and spouse Beth Semder of Florence, South Carolina, Elizabeth Semder of Cross Lanes and Cassandra Barnette of Point Pleasant and her great grandchild, Victoria Quinn Barnette, daughter of her grandson Jason Barnette, Esquire and his spouse aforementioned. Brothers Robert A. Surface of Rock Camp, WV, Danny Surface of Princeton, WV, Roger Surface of Princeton, WV and David Surface of Bluewell, WV. There will be held a gathering of friends and family at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Betty’s memorial service will be officiated by Rev. Mike Smith on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 1:00p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia whereafter she will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, West Virginia.
