Kathleen Tabor Gawthrop

Kathleen Tabor Gawthrop, 103 of Bluefield, WV, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 of natural causes. She was currently a resident of Princeton Health Care in Princeton, WV. Born in Bluefield, WV to parents, James Tabor and Ada Vernon Tabor, she is also preceeded in death by her husband, Tom Gawthrop, two brothers, James Tabor and Paul Tabor, one sister, Greta Tabor, one daughter, Jane Daniels and two grandchildren, Tommy and Becky Cockrell. She was born May 7th, 1907 in Bluefield, WV where she resided most of her life. She graduated from Beaver High School in 1925. She was a devoted mother and wife, being married 56 years until her husband's passing. She was a member of several different churches over the years, her last being Westminster Presbyterian in Bluefield, WV. She was a fine seamstress and wonderful cook, leaving behind some very sought after "secret family recipes." She raised her own three children and was always around to assist with grandchildren and even great grandchildren. She did not work after marriage but ran her home as a business with the attitude of "a place for everything and everything in it's place." She will be appreciated and missed by a long list of survivors. She is survived by, two daughters, Phyllis Hanson of Charlotte and Kaye Hamer of Bluefield, 7 grandchildren, Cindi Hanson-Page of Charlotte, NC, David Hanson of Billings, MT, Chris Hamer of Charlotte, Chuck Hamer of Charleston, WV, Ricky Cockrell of Tupelo, MS, Sandra Stevens of Austin, TX, and Pam Wild of Richland Hills, TX. She also leaves behind 20 great grand children and 6 great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends and family at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Tues, March 15th. Cryptside services will be held, Wednesday, March 16th at 1:00 Monte Vista Cemetery in Bluefield, WV, Craig Hammond officiating.
