BLUEWELL, WV---Leonard V.”Scotty” Scott, age 86, of Bluewell, WV passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 at his residence after a short battle with cancer. Born July 20, 1924 at Junior Pokey, WV (Welch). He was the son of the late Leonard and Nancy Mahalia Noe Scott. “Scotty” had lived in Bluewell for the past 63 years. He attended Gary High School, and had worked 15 years at US Steel as a coal miner at Gary #6. He was the past owner of Pinnacle Rock Mining Supply. He retired 2 years ago from Food City in Bluefield, VA. Mr. Scott was a WWII Veteran of the 1st Army Infantry, having fought in England and Germany. He was a member of the Public Defenders in Princeton, WV and also a member of the Bluewell United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mae Kender, Lillian Reichenberger, Myrtle Gallay, and Gertrude Reising Diamond; two brothers, Harmon and Carson Scott. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Virginia Attleen Scott of Bluewell, WV Two daughters, Nancy Roten and husband Mike of North Tazewell, VA Dawn Murphy and husband Kim of Bluewell, WV Four Grandchildren, Stephanie Roten of Wendell, NC Scott Roten and wife Kristy of Fuquay Varina, NC Keenan and Brennan Murphy of Bluewell, WV the “light of his life” Great-grandson, Lucas Scott Roten of Fuquay Varina, NC Several Nieces and Nephews Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, WV with Rev. Stephen Rector, Rev. D. Homer Stewart, and Rev. Lloyd Day officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, WV. where the WV Honor Guard and Mercer County Veterans Council will conduct Military Graveside Rites. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday, February 21, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Scott Roten, Keenan Murphy, Brennan Murphy, Marty Cepelnik, David Capelnik, and Steve Remines. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bluewell United Methodist Church.
