Thelma Gertrude Simons, age 89, of 1412 North Walker Street, Princeton, WV passed away on Friday, February 4, 2011 at the GlenWood Park Retirement Village.
Born on July 14, 1921 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Inez Johnson. She had been a resident of Princeton for 40 years and was a member of the Princeton Church of God where she was a greeter and a senior adult care pastor. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Simons; brothers and sisters in law, Elsworth and Louise Johnson, Edward and Nancy Johnson, Allen and Delphia Johnson; a sister and brother in law, Dovie and George Bentley; and a brother in law, Clifton Yates.
Survivors include:
3 special nieces: Dovie (Dolly) Sexton, Connie Morgan, and JoAnn Miller
Several nieces and nephews
Brothers: Thomas and Betty Blevins of Maybeury
Ed and Ruth Johnson of Wise, VA
Sister: Mary Helen Yates of Princeton
Special friends: Leona Morris, Linda Latham, and Julia York.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February, 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Fred Farley and Rev. Dolly Sexton officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Friends may call on Sunday from 3-5PM at the funeral home.
