William Earl Canter

William Earl Canter, age 80, of Route 4 Box 167-A (Evangelism Road), Bluefield, WV, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2011 on Evangelism Road, near his residence. Born on July 23, 1930 in Bristol, TN, he was a son of the late James C. and Lena Taylor Canter. He had been a resident of Bluefield for 40 years and was a retired coal miner with forty years of service. He retired from Eastern Associated Coal Company in Keystone and was a member of the UMWA. He was a veteran of the US Army, where he served as a PFC during the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Canter; his second wife, Juanita Canter; a son, Raymond Lee Barton; and a sister, Earline Rackley. Survivors include: Son: Hank W. Canter of Charleston Daughters: Nancy Brewster and James of Falls Mills, VA Betty Beck and David of Bluefield Janet Kemp of Princeton Stepson: Mikie Perdue and Loretta of Pounding Mill, VA Stepdaughters: Rebecca Sue Carpenter and Stephen of Rural Retreat, VA Donna Kay Berry of Tazewell, VA Brothers: Twin brother, Everen . Canter and Betty of New Castle, DE Gene Canter and Carol of Colonial Heights, VA 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren 10 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where grandsons and family will serve as pallbearers. Dallas Wimmer will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Military honors will be performed by the WV Honor Guard and the Mercer County Veterans Council. Friends may call on Tuesday from the services, from 12:00-1:00PM.
