Lakewood Cox, age 79, of Falls Mills, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on April 21, 1931 in Floyd, VA, he was the son of the late Don Lee and Velma Phillips Cox. While a resident of Falls Mills, Lakewood was the owner and operator of The County Store with his wife for 39 years. He also owned and operated local coal companies with his brothers. Lakewood had a passion for farming that made him an avid farmer in the Nemours area. He was a faithful member of East River Church in Bluefield, VA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettina D. Cox; and a brother, Ardie Cox.

9 Grandchildren- Ricky, Jason, Jeremiah, Rodney, Adam, Hunter, Brandi, Heather and Julie
8 Great-grandchildren- Alexis, Skylar, Olivia, Neil, Rosalyn, Allison, Elizabeth and Connor
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Pastor Tim Boyd and Rev. Kathy Hagerman officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where grandsons and nephew will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call on Friday from 6-8PM at the funeral home.
